First Time Setup

Configure your workspace for the first time

Overview

This guide covers the initial setup steps for new SimplyManage users. Follow these steps to configure your account and workspace for optimal productivity.

Complete Your Profile

Start by completing your profile information:

  1. Click on your avatar in the top-right corner
  2. Select Profile from the dropdown
  3. Add or update your:
    • Display name - How your name appears to team members
    • Email - Your contact email
    • Avatar - Upload a profile picture
  4. Click Save Changes

Configure Your Settings

Customize SimplyManage to match your preferences:

  1. Navigate to Settings in the sidebar
  2. Configure the following options:

Theme Preferences

  • Choose between Light, Dark, or System theme
  • Toggle the theme quickly using the sun/moon icon in the header

Notification Settings

  • Timer reminders - Get reminded if a timer has been running too long
  • Timesheet reminders - Get notified to submit your weekly timesheet
  • Approval notifications - Know when your timesheet is approved or needs changes

Connect Integrations

If your organization uses Jira or GitLab, connect your accounts for seamless time tracking:

Jira Integration

  1. Go to SettingsIntegrations
  2. Click Connect Jira
  3. Enter your Jira email and API token
  4. Provide your Jira domain (e.g., yourcompany.atlassian.net)
  5. Click Save Connection

Getting a Jira API Token

To generate a Jira API token, go to Atlassian Account Settings and create a new token.

GitLab Integration

  1. Go to SettingsIntegrations
  2. Click Connect GitLab
  3. Enter your GitLab personal access token
  4. Provide your GitLab instance URL (or use gitlab.com)
  5. Click Save Connection

Install Browser Extension

The SimplyManage browser extension lets you track time without leaving your browser:

  1. Navigate to Extension in the sidebar
  2. Click the link to install from Chrome Web Store
  3. Pin the extension to your toolbar for quick access
  4. Log in with your SimplyManage credentials

Info

The browser extension works on Jira, GitLab, and any other website. Look for the SimplyManage timer button on Jira issues to start tracking instantly.

For Managers: Additional Setup

If you have Manager or Admin permissions, complete these additional steps:

Create Projects

  1. Navigate to Projects
  2. Click Create Project
  3. Enter project details and assign team members

Invite Team Members

  1. Navigate to Team
  2. Click Invite Member
  3. Enter their email and select their role

For Admins: Organization Setup

Administrators should configure these organization-wide settings:
