Managing projects in SimplyManage
Overview
Projects in SimplyManage organize your work and enable accurate time tracking, budgeting, and reporting. Every time entry must be associated with a project.
Project Structure
A project in SimplyManage includes:
- Name - Identifying name for the project
- Client - Optional client association
- Budget - Time or cost budget
- Billing Rate - Hourly rate for billing
- Team Members - Who can track time to this project
- Tasks - Breakdown of work items
- Status - Active, on hold, or archived
Project Types
SimplyManage supports different project billing models:
Time & Materials
Bill clients based on actual hours worked. Ideal for ongoing work or when scope is flexible.
Fixed Price
Set a fixed budget regardless of hours. Track time for internal cost analysis while billing a flat amount.
Internal
Non-billable projects for internal work, training, or administrative tasks.
Project Roles
Team members can have different roles on projects:
| Role | Description | Permissions |
|---|---|---|
| Member | Standard team member | Track time, view own entries |
| Lead | Project lead | All member permissions + manage tasks |
| Manager | Project manager | Full access including budget and team |
Info
Your system role (User, Manager, Admin) also affects what you can do. Admin users have full access to all projects.
Project Lifecycle
Projects progress through different statuses:
- Active - Currently in progress, time tracking enabled
- On Hold - Temporarily paused, time tracking disabled
- Completed - Work finished, time tracking disabled
- Archived - Removed from active lists, data preserved
