Jira Integration

Sync time entries with Jira issues

Overview

The Jira integration connects SimplyManage with Atlassian Jira, allowing you to track time directly from Jira issues and sync worklogs between both platforms.

Features

  • Track time on Jira issues - Start timer from any Jira issue
  • Sync worklogs - Time entries appear in Jira automatically
  • Import projects - Create projects from Jira projects
  • Issue details - View Jira info in SimplyManage
  • Browser extension - One-click tracking from Jira pages

Requirements

Before connecting Jira, you'll need:

  • A Jira Cloud account (Server/Data Center coming soon)
  • Your Jira email address
  • A Jira API token
  • Your Jira domain (e.g., yourcompany.atlassian.net)

Generating a Jira API Token

  1. Go to Atlassian Account Settings
  2. Click Create API token
  3. Enter a label (e.g., "SimplyManage")
  4. Click Create
  5. Copy the token (you won't see it again)

Keep Your Token Safe

Store your API token securely. Anyone with this token can access your Jira account. Never share it publicly.

Connecting Jira

  1. Go to SettingsIntegrations
  2. Click Connect Jira
  3. Enter your Jira email
  4. Paste your API token
  5. Enter your Jira domain
  6. Click Save Connection

SimplyManage will verify the connection and show your Jira projects.

Tracking Time on Jira Issues

From SimplyManage

  1. Start the timer as usual
  2. In the Ticket ID field, enter the Jira issue key (e.g., PROJ-123)
  3. The issue details will be fetched automatically
  4. Stop the timer when done

From Browser Extension

  1. Navigate to a Jira issue page
  2. Click the SimplyManage extension icon
  3. The issue is pre-filled automatically
  4. Click Start Timer

Tip

The browser extension automatically detects Jira issue pages and shows a "Track Time" button directly on the page.

Worklog Synchronization

Time entries with Jira issues can be synced as Jira worklogs:

  • Automatic sync - Worklogs created when timer stops
  • Manual sync - Sync existing entries on demand
  • Two-way sync - Changes in Jira update SimplyManage

Sync Settings

Configure sync behavior in integration settings:

  • Auto-sync - Enable/disable automatic syncing
  • Sync description - Include time entry description
  • Sync on approval - Only sync approved timesheet entries

Importing Jira Projects

Create SimplyManage projects from Jira:

  1. Go to ProjectsImport
  2. Select Import from Jira
  3. Choose Jira projects to import
  4. Map to clients and configure settings
  5. Click Import

Troubleshooting

Connection Failed

  • Verify your email matches your Jira account
  • Check that the API token is correct
  • Ensure the domain is correct (no https://)

Issue Not Found

  • Verify the issue key is correct (PROJECT-NUMBER)
  • Check that you have permission to view the issue in Jira
  • Ensure the issue hasn't been deleted

Sync Not Working

  • Check that auto-sync is enabled
  • Verify your Jira permissions include "Log Work"
  • Check if the project has time tracking disabled

Disconnecting Jira

To remove the Jira connection:

  1. Go to SettingsIntegrations
  2. Find Jira in the connected integrations
  3. Click Disconnect
  4. Confirm the action

Info

Disconnecting does not delete your time entries. Historical data with Jira references is preserved.
